Our Mission

Etiquette not Equiptment

MTBMD began because we saw a need to improve our local trails. Ken and Jason contacted MORE (Mid Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts) to see what could be done about trail maintenance at the Hashawha Environmental Center and were quickly recruited to do just that. At the most basic level MTBMD are MORE representatives and liaisons to the Hashawha Environmental Center. MTBMD has expanded to a core team of nine people along with a growing community of volunteers and trail users. MTBMD is primarily made up of mountain bikers but we do not build or maintain trails for mountain bikers alone. Our mission is to build a community of trail users at the Hashawha Environmental Center—whether you run, hike, trot, or roll—with an emphasis on mutual respect and modeling proper trail etiquette on our shared use trail system. We work with the Carroll County Recreation & Parks department and the Hashawha Environmental Center staff to improve our trails and keep them safe for trail users including equestrians, hikers, runners and anyone else who wants to get out into nature. We organize volunteer trail work days, mountain bike group rides, skills clinics, fundraising events, and more. See you on the trails!
